Gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) is a fish of the Sparidae family, found in the Mediterranean and along the coasts of the northeastern Atlantic. Along with European sea bass, gilthead sea bream is considered one of the most valuable fish in the Mediterranean in terms of nutritional value, as it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. It is one of the main species used in aquaculture and the most widely farmed species in the Mediterranean.
