Pagrus major (Pagro maggiore) is a saltwater fish that belongs to the Sparidae family. It can reach a weight of 8 to 9 kilograms and a length of 90 centimeters. Its color is golden-red.
Pagrus major lives close to the seabed, in open waters over rocky or sandy bottoms. It is found at depths ranging from 30 to 250 meters. It is found throughout the Mediterranean Sea, along the northern and southeastern coasts of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as in the western Atlantic.
It mainly feeds on mollusks, benthic crustaceans, and other fish.
